Tāmaki Makaurau-based design studio Extended Whānau focuses on using design to make Māori culture more visible across Aotearoa. Their work combines cultural insight with contemporary design practices, creating publications and visual experiences that reflect Māori identity while engaging a wide audience.

For these prospectus books, Extended Whānau collaborated with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei to showcase key commercial opportunities within the Te Tōangaroa precinct, including their flagship site and AECOM House, an office space highlighting the hapū’s presence in the City Centre. The precinct, anchored by landmarks such as Spark Arena and Mahuhu ki te Rangi Reserve, not only re-establishes Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s presence in the city but also generates income to reinvest in the hapū. The books blend storytelling, design, and craft to celebrate both the cultural and commercial significance of these sites.

These A4 prospectus books were produced with a focus on both quality and precision. The covers were printed in full colour on 298gsm Mohawk Via Felt Eggshell, giving a tactile, luxurious feel, while the interiors were printed on 148gsm Superfine Eggshell Ultra White for clarity, readability, and a refined finish. Digital die cutting was applied by Newtown Cutting Services, providing bespoke detailing and precision edges that elevate the design.

The books were sewn using a Singer binding press, with custom-coloured threads that echo the palette of the interiors. This not only ensures durability but also reinforces the design aesthetic, creating a cohesive, high-end publication. Every stage of production, from stock selection to finishing, was carefully managed to deliver a tactile, visually striking outcome befitting both Ngāti Whātua Te Taongaroa and AECOM House.

It all begins with an idea. We love turning creative visions into beautifully printed reality. Reach out and let’s start planning your next project together.
